Skimboarding As A Fun Sport To Improve Your Fitness

Skimboarding was born on the beaches on a board that is much smaller than a surfboard. Skimboarding involves skimming this board along the outgoing shallow waters of retreating waves along the sand. Once the board reaches the waves the user rides the wave back in to shore.

Skimming is done by standing on the board as it glides across the surface of the shallow water on the beach. Tricks like ollies, fistral turns and shove ins are often performed by novices and more experienced boarders alike.

If you really enjoy being on the beach and close to the water but want a sport that is exciting without risking deep water and big waves, then you should try out skimboarding. It is a great way to exercise as it forces you to use every muscle in your body.

The bonus to this type of exercise is that you are having so much fun doing it that you do not even realize that you are exercising. Another way to use this board is to allow it to glide over wet sand towards the ocean.

A technique known as flatland skimming requires that you stand on your board and ride it towards shore on the outgoing waters of the previous wave break. The best time to do this is at low tide when the beach is most exposed.

First time beginners should learn how to throw the board onto the beach and run onto it, maintaining a standing posture, while it skims across the thin layer of water. As you progress in your mastery of this skill you will learn how to do many other tricks.

All skimboarders eventually learn to do the Wrap, which involves riding your board out to an incoming wave and then spinning the board to ride the wave to shore without stepping off. Really advanced boarders can even ride the wave surfer style.
