A Butcher Block Is A Great Kitchen Accessory

Everyone should have a butcher block in their kitchen, and for the most part a lot of people presently do. These blocks are made of wood materials and they are designed to allow easy cutting of things such as meats, and cheeses. Even though the blocks are great to use, there are some people that forget that these blocks also need to be maintained accordingly.

If you fail to clean your block on a continuous basis you are giving germs the chance to spread. These germs can cause you and members of your family to become extremely ill. Dirty blocks can also lead to gastric issues as well.

The most crucial thing you need to remember when it comes to properly cleaning and maintaining your butcher block is that it needs to be oiled on a regular basis. You will need to use mineral oil in order to oil the block down so it can be used accordingly.

The block should be wiped with a damp sponge or rag after you have used it to cut something on. Obviously you would not want to use your block if it has an immense amount of blood or other food particles stuck to its outer surface. Do not employ the use of harsh chemicals on your block either. These chemicals can ruin the block and it can cause the wood to rot excessively.

Scrape off layers of the block in order to clean it thoroughly. You can engage in this activity by using a dull knife or utility knife. After you have scraped off a full layer of wood, you will want to apply vinegar to the outer surface of the block.

However, the vinegar will need to be rinsed off after it has sat on the butcher blocks surface for approximately five minutes. After rinsing the block, dry it off with a towel so the wood does not become distorted due to the excessive moisture that you are adding to the external surface of the wooden block.
